When you fit a pre-rinse unit, the first choice isn't the spray head — it's where the riser lives. Wall and deck mounting solve the same job two different ways, and the right one is the one your sink and walls actually allow.
A pre-rinse unit is the whole assembly — riser, hose, valve, and head. The riser has to be anchored somewhere. Wall mount fixes it to the wall behind the sink; deck mount clamps it to the sink or counter. Either way the head at the end is the same fitting — our head still takes the same 7/8″-20 UNEF inlet — so the mounting choice changes the plumbing, not the product.
The riser bolts to the wall, with the supply line running up to it. It leaves the deck completely clear — no post standing in the working area, no hole through the sink — which is why it suits a tight sink with no spare deck space. The cost is upstream: the wall has to take the load and the hot/cold supply has to reach that point, which may mean a plumber before you bolt anything.
The riser clamps to the sink deck or counter through a hole. No wall work, it moves with the sink if you relocate the station, and it lands right where the supply already is. The cost is the deck space it occupies and the post that stands in the working zone — fine on a wide sink, awkward on a cramped one.
| If you have⦠| Then |
|---|---|
| A tight deck, no spare hole, solid wall behind the sink | Wall mount |
| A relocatable sink, no wall plumbing, easy deck access | Deck mount |
| Supply already at the deck, limited wall work budget | Deck mount |
| Clear wall behind the sink, supply reachable | Wall mount |
The head you fit is identical in both cases. Match the 7/8″-20 UNEF inlet, confirm the thread with the checker, and the mounting decision stays where it belongs — with the room you have.
Wall mount clears the deck but needs wall load and supply; deck mount needs a hole but moves with the sink. The spray head is the same fitting either way — 7/8″-20 UNEF — so pick the mount your kitchen allows, then match the head to the thread. Don't let the mounting question distract from the one spec that actually changes the product.
